The Haig Park Dog Agility Equipment was installed in 2021 and is used by dog owners and community groups. I undertook research and development to create a dog agility course designed to the standards of the Agility Dog Association of Australia while being suitable for public places.
The agility course includes jumps, a-frames, weave poles, hoop jumps and boxes. They are made from durable and dog-safe materials, and all equipment is adjustable to suit dogs of all shapes and sizes. I designed and built the dog agility equipment to be mobile to easily relocate the equipment and allow the grassland to recover after significant use. This also keeps the course layout fresh with new arrangments and configurations.
Every month, PAWS Parties are held at the public dog agility course with an opportunity for diverse community members to connect. The events feature food and drinks, live music, performers, pet providers and entertainment. But the PAWS (Pet Assisted Wellbeing Service) Party isn’t just for dog owners; It is an opportunity to bring people together because of their mutual love for dogs and enjoy the simplicity of the public park.
Haig Park programming is presented by City Renewal Authority and supported by the University of Canberra. Haig Park Paw Parties are proudly sponsored by PAWS (Pet Assisted Wellbeing Service) at Northside Community Service.
